Marche Region Information sheet

Marche is the new Tuscany

We are located in the very centre of Italy, on the border of Emilia Romagna, Marche, San Marino, Tuscany and Umbria. This region boasts some of the loveliest landscapes and scenery throughout all of Italy.

Marche is at the beating heart of Italy, and can be easily reached by the extensive road network. Close to the A14 motorway artery, linking you to Rome, Milan, Venice, Bologna along the Adriatic coast, that is also a good road link to Southern and Northern Italy.

The main Airports of Ancona, Rimini and Bologna are within close proximity. There is an excellent express bus service from Pesaro to Urbino and then onto Rome and retourn.

The people of this region are some of the most friendly and hospitable in all of Italy, they are eager to share their traditions and culture with foreign travellers and expats.
Travellers adore the slower pace of life in these little towns and villages and enjoy the great food, local produce and local wines which are a way of life for the central Italy's people.

We are positioned just north of Marche in the hills of Montefeltro. In August of every year we have the famous “Rossini Opera Festival” in Pesaro and the “Sea Jazz Festival” in Fano. Other summer events include the “Festa del Duca” in Urbino and the “L’incendio della Rocca”- in Mondavio.

One should not forget the “Festa del Tartufo” in Sant’Angelo in Vado and Acqualagna. These are events you should not miss.

The weather in these regions is temperate with guaranteed hot summers, mild autumns and winters. The landscape is beautiful and beyond compare. Every town and village has its own square or piazza and there is a rich history and culture. The walled city of Urbino is a UNESCO world heritage site with museums, art galleries and the Dukes Palace. There is also the University of Urbino (Carlo Bo). If you love culture and refinement, you will love this place.

The regions of Montefeltro are famous for food and wine. The world famous White Truffle is found in the forest of Appennino and this delicacy is more valuable than gold. For wine lovers there is the wines of Sangiovese, Verdicchio, Lacrima di Morro d’Alba and Bianchello del Metauro, this is truly wine heaven.
Last but not least are the home made pastas of Tagliatelle, Lasagne, Cannelloni. Tortellini and Passatelli. Finally there is Prosciutto di Carpegna and a bounty of seasonal fruits and vegetable.
